PACTMusic youth have had an incredible year! Going from “at-risk” to performing on stage, our PACTMusic urban music program has allowed many of these teens the opportunity to be creative and experience life memories!
The magic happens at weekly beginner and advanced sessions where youth work alongside professional musicians (aka PACT instructors) to learn to play instruments, write original songs and perform in a full band setting. The most committed were given the chance to record in a professional music studio and most recently, take part in the music video production.
‘Thoughts’ Music Video Premiere
Shot over three days with the PACTMusic and PACTFilm youth, the music video for ‘Thoughts’ was made possible thanks to an amazing, giving community of award-winning musicians, funders and professional music producers. The video was premiered at a special PACTMusic youth concert on December 8, 2016 to a supportive audience of parents and families, staff and PACT supporters. Photos are on our Facebook page.
“This is a huge triumph for many of these kids who grew up in unsupported or abusive environments and never thought they could accomplish such a great level of excellence,” says Erik Schramek, musician and PACTMusic instructor, “They’ve emerged into adulthood thinking they’re not valuable and this collaboration has given them the chance to be a part of something pretty magnificent!”
A huge thanks to RBC Foundation, WC Kitchen Foundation, The Lacquer Channel, Max River and Gabe Galluci for making this initiative possible. Thank you to director Philip Nozuka, cinematographer Mitchel Reed and the entire cast and crew of youth and instructors.
