We are about a little over halfway of our 2017 growing and garden season and so far, it’s been the busiest yet! Thanks to new funding, we’ve expanded our garden, programs and outreach.
In our organic school garden at John Polanyi CI, Toronto, weekly garden markets coincide with our Community Compost Exchange program. Every Tuesday, seniors, students, families and volunteers get together to drop off kitchen scraps in exchange for market dollars, shop the organic market and stay for a free communal meal!
Our new on-site cooler allows us to preserve more food, before being distributed or sent to the local food bank; a fabulous new outdoor kitchen renovation means we can prepare meals and feed dozens of guests; and our distribution of compost bins means hundreds of pounds of waste are being diverted from landfills and are instead becoming nutrient-rich compost for our garden.
Thanks to a generous donation from The Sprott Foundation and also financial support from The Home Depot Foundation and The Echo Foundation for allowing us to provide food, events & programming in the Lawrence West neighbourhood.
